Original Red Bus Cyprus
The original Red Bus Cyprus – Open top tours
Myself and John took this day trip across to Northern Occupied Cyprus with the original red bus tour and what a great day it was. We got picked up at 10am from Pernera (times change depending on your pickup location) and headed through the villages towards the boarder crossing to the Northern part of Cyprus. The English guides are brilliant, funny and factual giving you just enough information and yet not to much.
Once we had crossed over the boarder (it was easy we sat on the bus and didn’t need to do anything) we then drove around the boundaries of the Old Venetian City where the guide pointed out lots of historic sites to visit once we stopped the bus. We had 2 hours free time in the Venetian walled city where you can take in the historic sites, do some shopping or just enjoy lunch or a cool drink.
After lunch we headed to Varoshia, the Ghost resort of Famagusta to see the the aftermath of the 1974 invasion. Seeing the buildings up close is a unique experience in itself. The guide will talk to you about the area and the invasion and then you can have a swim and relax for about an hour before heading back seeing yet a bit more history.
The trip is an all day trip and is very informative. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and would recommend it to anyone looking to learn a bit about the history of the island.
