Weather in Cyprus in May

March 7, 2018 by admin
May is no exception to the weather changes throughout the season and is in our opinion one of the nicest months of the year to visit Cyprus. on this page we have discusses key points that we are usually asked by our holiday guests when they are booking vacations or getting married in Cyprus in May. We will go over what the temperatures will be like throughout the day and night and average sea temperatures as well as packing, rental properties in tourist areas and activities to keep everyone entertained in Cyprus in May.

May is a popular month for travelers to visit Cyprus because we have an average of 13 hours sunshine and a 81% chance of a sunny day. We gain a lot of travelers without children as flights to Cyprus are cheaper out of summer holidays (apart from May half term) and the weather in Cyprus in May in Protaras, Ayia Napa, Pernera & Kapparis is an average of 20c or 69F and with average temperatures at a high of 25c 77F and a low of 16c 60F.

May in Cyprus can see an average rainfall of 12mm with a 12% chance of rain. Days when there is rain, you will often sea beautiful rainbows and on windy days the coast can be quite spectacular especially for photographers.

Sea Temperatures

Beaches are open throughout the month of May and tend not to be so crowded as Peek months. Any of the out of the way coves, like Firemans Beach and Ayia Triada beach are also popular hideouts for escaping the breeze. The average sea temperature in October is 21c 69f.

Many of the beaches in Cyprus have the blue flag awards.

Things to do in Cyprus in May

There is an abundance of tourist attractions open in May and we have full lists throughout our site, such as water sports, beach’s, boat trips, historic sites. However, it isn’t always easy to know what to do when it is raining in Cyprus on that 12% chance day. We would suggest a day bowling in Paralimni, the cinema in Larnaca, the Thallasa Museum in Ayia Napa, Ocean Aquarium as well as cafes, restaurants and bars open from morning to night. The aquarium is part inside, part outdoors but again a different day out and all of our holiday rental villas and apartments have indoor entertainment.

Packing for the weather in Cyprus in May

Pack your summer wear and forget the rain jackets! Shorts, swimsuits, dresses and flip flops. We would recommend you bringing a hat and loose short sleeve T.shirt (if you get burnt you will be able to put this on in the day to protect you- also a good idea for children). Don’t forget a hat. I would pack some light weight jeans or trousers encase you feel a bit chilly at night and light cardigans. As the saying goes, it’s better to be to warm than to cold in that scenario.

Renting holidays villas in Cyprus in May

Its always nice to know that when the weather in August in Cyprus is really hot you definitely need the air conditioning, in May it is sometimes nice to not need that option, many of our villas and apartments are equipped with fly screens and ceiling fans to give you a choice in May. For cooler evenings, there are blankets available and the air conditioning also turns to heating if required. A couple of our top pics for May holidays are Themis holiday villa in Protaras which has ceiling fans and plenty of indoor entertainment. Chanelle holiday Villa is also a great villa with plenty of sun in the pool area.

Locations that are open in Cyprus in May

All of the summer holiday resorts in Cyprus are open in May including Pernera, Kapparis, Protaras and Ayia Napa. You can expect places to open around the middle / end of April and be opening or already open by May. Areas such as Paralimni & Kapparis are all year round resorts.
